RULES

The entry Fee will be $300.00 if paid by June 23rd, 2023, after June 23rd entry fee will be $325.00. An entry fee is required before a team can play in our tournament. Entry fee may be paid to the head scorekeeper, Todd Zenner Tournament Director, or Valerie Goodwin Treasurer. No exceptions will be allowed. A closed invitational tournament. Only three (3) non-Mexican/American/Native American players will be allowed on the 20-man roster. No non-Mex/Am/Native American player will be allowed to pitch in our tournament. All (3) non-Mexican/American/Native Americans will be allowed to play at the same time. Any violation of these rules will result in forfeiture of the game. In case of a protest, any player in question will have the burden of proof in their Mexican/Native American heritage.

The roster limit is 20 players. A player may be on more than one roster BUT can only play for one team. Any manager or coach that intends to play must be included on the 20-man roster to be eligible. No exceptions. All players must be a minimum of fifteen (15) years of age as of July 1st to be able to participate. Any violation of this rule will result in the forfeiture of the game.

Official team rosters must be turned in prior to each team’s first game. No player can be added to the roster after this time. If no roster is turned in, the official score sheet of that team’s first game will become that team’s official roster and no additional players can be added.

All lineups are required to be given to the official scorekeeper at least 15 minutes prior to your game with full names and uniform numbers and the position of each player. (Remember game time is forfeit time)

All games are played under the rules outlined by the ASA (Amateur Softball Association). If you plan on using the re-entry rule, give the home plate umpire a copy of your lineup prior to the game.

The Athletic Club will furnish ASA-approved softballs for every game. There will be no other softballs allowed ASA approved or not. The ASA ball rotation rule will be in effect.

All games are one hour and thirty minutes or seven innings. No new inning will begin after one hour and twenty minutes. Sunday’s Championship game(s) are exempt.

Game time is forfeit time with the exceptions of rain delays or prior games running long. Subject to rescheduling by the tournament director.

All players and coaches are required to be in complete uniform. No cut-off sleeves or shorts.

The Run Rule will be in effect as follows; Fifteen (15) runs after Three (3) complete innings, Ten (10) runs after Four (4) complete innings, and Seven (7) runs after five complete innings. With the exception of the Championship game(s).

All protests (including player eligibility) must be presented to the protest committee at the time of the infraction along with a $300.00 Cash fee and must be paid at the time of the protest. No protest will be accepted after the completion of the game in question. All decisions will be final. If a team loses their protest they will also lose their $300.00 protest fee. No protest of an umpire judgment calls will be accepted. No game will be halted for a protest.

In case of rain, managers are required to report to Athletic Park for rescheduling and are subject to be moved to different fields and play at new scheduled times. Managers will be required to give cell numbers or motel numbers to tournament officials so if rescheduling is necessary we can do it in a timely fashion.

International Rule: In case of a tied game at the end of an official game or time limit expiration:  The following tie-breaker rule will be played to determine a winning team.

Starting with the top of the first extra inning, and each half inning thereafter, the offensive team shall begin its turn at bat with the player who is scheduled to bat last in that respective half inning being placed on second base (e.g., if the number five batter is the leadoff batter, the number four batter in the batting order will be placed on second base. (An eligible substitute may be inserted for the runner)

Any manager, coach, player, or person associated with a team (i.e. sponsors, fans) who is ejected from a game must leave the field immediately and may be required to leave the park if necessary. Failure to do so may result in the forfeiture of the game.

Courtesy Runner: Will be allowed for the pitcher and catcher only and may not be a player currently in the lineup and may not run for both in the same half inning. Reference rule #2

Ground Rules

No alcoholic beverages will be permitted in the dugout or playing area.

Smoking is not allowed on the field or in the coach’s box.

Coaches on 1st and 3rd are not permitted to carry any items on the field of play (i.e. scorebooks, balls, gloves, bats, etc.)

The umpire, field director, and/or tournament director reserve the right to dismiss any player, coach, or manager for a game, a day, and/or the entire tournament.

The dugout area will be limited to roster players, two coaches, one batboy (Minimum 14 years old), and one manager. Please keep all non-roster people out of the dugout.

No exceptions.

Illegal equipment will be removed but is not grounds for forfeiting a game.

Batting helmets are REQUIRED not optional.

The tournament director and committee are empowered to make additional rules as required.

Newton Mexican-American Athletic Club and/or Committee Members are NOT responsible for any accidents or injuries that may occur during our tournament.
